The Rams first round draft pick in 2002, Robert Thomas focuses much of his efforts on patients in area childrens hospitals. As part of those efforts, he makes frequent visits to the hospitals and also provides patients with tickets to each home game. In 2004, Robert formed the Robert Thomas Foundation which is dedicated to serving the patients at childrens hospitals by arranging recreational outings. Whether it be going to the circus or taking a trip across the country, these outings allow patients to surround themselves with other youngsters that are going through similar struggles. Thomas donates $55 for each tackle he makes to the Robert Thomas Foundation to fund the outings. In 2005, Robert took a group of terminally ill patients from Dream Factory St. Louis to his hometown of San Diego for visits to Sea World, a Padres game and much more. While the group was in San Diego, they met up with children from both San Diego and Imperial Valley. Thomas teamed up with Scholastic Books to donate more than 500 books to the patients at Childrens. In addition, he has helped raise money for Children's Miracle Network, Childrens Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House.

Thomas was named a Rams Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist in 2003 and 2004, and was selected to the Sporting News Good Guys list in 2004 and 2005. During the summer, Thomas teams up with McDonalds and Coca-Cola to host a free football camp for inner-city youth. While with the Rams, Robert frequently visited schools to stress the importance of reading. He was also active in the Get Into the Game program which promotes positive character development and decision-making. Robert has participated in the Race for the Cure, the Make-A-Wish Celebrity Server Dinner, and has visited local firefighters. He also participates in numerous charity golf tournaments. In addition, Robert participated in a PSA encouraging people to Join the Team and volunteer. In 2004, the Multiple Sclerosis Society presented Thomas with an award for his work on and off the field.

Now that Robert has signed a three-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, he is looking forward to getting involved with the Childrens Hospital & Research Center Oakland by purchasing tickets for patients to games and taking them on outings.
